It gives me absolute pleasure in announcing the UK kite buggy speed record has been broken, and its one of our favourite kite buggiers too, Tom Mulligan aka RedSkyHorizon…..as usual Tom was out in crazy winds and using his Trikbitz Dust Devil buggy, with Kenda Beach Racer tyres, so not only is Tom the fastest kite buggier un the UK, he has upped his world record speed for Kenda Beach Racers.
Tom aka RedSkyHorizon has now taken Matt Cook’s previous UK best of 68.10mph that has stood for around a decade, to the amazing speed of 69.8mph or 112.33km/h. Tom used two GPS units and as always we have taken the lowest speed 69.8 and 69.9mph.
Toms words….
I have to rush out to work now but before I do I thought I would quickly shoot you this message. Finally, after 8 long years of trying to beat my PB, I got a new a new one today!
69.8 mph & 69.9 mph Camber sands. The kite I used was a 7m Genetrix Hydra.Unfortunately the Dominator is in long term storage atm because I’ve moved into a new place without a garage. I was using the Trikbitz Dust Devil, a great bug but for high speed it did not inspire much confidence.Really wish I had the Dominator Carl. I would have had more confidence in it. Maybe pushed harder for 70mph đThe wind was dodgy, very dodgy. 46 knots gusting to 55 knots. Decided to quit after just 4 runs.I did not use a wind meter on the day but the Kitesurf Center have their own live weather station which you can access online. https://www.thekitesurfcentre.com/weather I was on the beach for just half an hour between 12:45 and 13:15 and averaged the following numbers from that time period : 44, 47, 44, 47, 44 = 45 knotsÂI have ignored the gusts which were peeking at 50 – 57 knots.Write up to come …. with more info. Really gutted I didn’t get anything on video, although I did a quick video of the conditions after the event.Thought you’d like to know. đ
Serious! No Way!!
You know I did not feel excited at the time. I was really kinda scared. It was pure survival out there today. Only afterwards was I happy about it. And now I’m fastest UK, 8th world. I’m really happy!!!These pictures aren’t great Carl. I took them off a gopro fusion 360 camera. Which means I have to take it from video. Here they are. Hope they are satisfactory?Â
